We hope you support the work of Finnish AEPF! wishes Finnish AEPF Committee 30 June 2009 Finnish AEPF Committee Elects New Chairperson At the monthly committee meeting on 16 June 2009, the Finnish AEPF Committee elected Member of European Parliament Sirpa Pietikäinen (National Coalition Party) as new chairperson of the Committee. MEP Pietikäinen is not new to the AEPF process. She chaired the committee in the run-up to the AEPF-6 in Helsinki in September 2006. She has been active with AEPF process at the EU level ever since. Finnish AEPF Committee Appoints Coordinator In March 2009, Ko Ko Thett, a student of world politics at the University of Helsinki, was appointed coordinator for the AEPF Committee (Finland). Ko Ko Thett is originally from Burma (Myanmar) and has been active with the Committee on Burma political issues since 2005. He has had considerable experience in Finnish and Asian civil society organization and administration. He speaks Burmese and English fluently and is able to communicate in Finnish. In his capacity as the coordinator, Ko Ko Thett will be convening two seminars— ‘Participatory and Participative Democracy in Asia’ on 24 April and ‘China’s Wild West: Tibet and Xinjian’ on 24 September—this year. He will also be responsible for information updates and communication of the Committee network and will be a secretary at the Committee’s monthly meetings.
